So, I had my creative writing class today, and I think it destroyed everything I thought I knew about producing a paper. The evidence:
1. My professor said to stop sending him emails asking him to look over stuff (I hadn't, but apparently other people were). It is our job to be self-critical. He will not see the final piece before the end of the class, because that would be unfair (Cue Lauren with a slightly confused look on her face).
2. Our final paper must cover EVERYTHING we talk about in class. No specifics. We must gloss over it all, and other sources are not necessary (Cue a very critical look on Lauren's face).
3. We do not need an argument. Or a thesis statement. No thesis statement. I repeat, no thesis statement (cue Lauren falling off her chair in shock).
Now, I do not mean to insult the education system here, but I have NO IDEA how I'm supposed to write this paper. The super nice girl who sits next to me is from Ireland, and, when I told her that I was lost without an arugment, she remarked that it was a typical American response. I laughed. On the bright side, I get to watch a movie for part of my homework assignment and explain how it tells the story. Kat and I are thinking about renting 10,000 BC.
In other news, Kat and I offically joined squash club last night, and we have a court reserved for tonight. I'm excited, because we actually managed to hit it back and forth a couple times during pratice, and there won't even be a bunch of people watching us and our epic badness. I keep seeing the guys that tried to teach us the first time (Kat and I are collectively called "Wisconsin" because I wore my Wisconsin swimming shirt that night) and they laugh every time. Yeah, we were awesome. I also went to swimming last Sunday, and I found out that I think they have free lap swims during the week, which I may start to go to. (Yeah, yeah, I know that no one cares about the pool but me, but I'll still talk about it!) I want to join the club, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money since they only meet once a week.
The good news: I found this new cereal by Harvest Moon with raspberry and blueberry flavoring. Makes my mornings.
The bad news: I don't want to study. My marine biology book just keeps listing different groups of organisms and what kind of systems they have.
The good news: This weekend was pretty epic! :) We did a castle and some mountains. Pictures soon.
The bad news: The fire alarm went off at 2 am the other day.
The good news: I was still awake, and we don't have to do it again, even though we were late. And they didn't yell at our flat!
The bad news: I'm still clinging to my thesis statement. *gets down on knees* Don't leave me!!
The good news: It's gorgeous here. And we had a really good dinner last night thanks to Kat! :D
Cheers,
Lauren
