Today, Lexie, Kat, Melisa and I decided to visit Beaumaris, a sea-side city with a castle built in the 11th century. It was (of course) amazing to walk around in something that old, and Kat and I got a little camera happy.
Kat: "Act like you are in Alice in Wonderland and crawl through that hole!"
The end result was a girl in a black puff coat trying to shove herself though something made for a bow and arrow. Comical, but the castle definitely made me look fat (heehee)!
There will be many pictures to come, but Kat has most of them on her camera and they are not uploaded for stealing yet. We also got a prime view of the mountains, which I am very excited to check out soon.
The walk to Beaumaris was an adventure as well; we took a six(ish) mile hike (sometimes without sidewalks) on a road swerving along the straights. We got a great view of the pier and some islands, and perfected our car-dodging skills. Kat and I were a little tired this morning, because we accidently stayed up late last night talking about driving and chestnuts with some of Kat's flatmates.
Earlier on Friday we went to Varsity, a pub that Melisa and Lexie discovered. The food was expensive and made me miss the burgers at home, but there were some drink deals I might consider going back for. Afterwards, we played Uno while singing the ABCs in five different languages and checked out a club in the Union. It was a great night!
Tommorrow we are finalizing our spring break plans, and Kat and I are headed to some sports clubs for their taster sessions. I am really excited to see what trampoline club is all about...apparently they have the best type of trampoline in Europe when it comes to jump height. Also, swimming starts up that night, and I may or may not go, depending on how sore my legs are from today. Between class and everything we want to join, it sounds like a pretty full week next week! Yay!
The bad news: I seem to be the only one in our group of five that actually has to worry about classes. One of my professors is super nice and super funny, but difficult to understand, and yesterday the PowerPoint went out so I really have no idea what happened in lecture. Plus, I am learning new stuff, which seems to be a unique thing when it comes to the Ripon students here. Luckily, Kat is in one of my classes, so she can help me out since she's had the material before.
The good news: I may be able to help out with field work. I got an email today from one of the professors, so I hope that works out! It would definitely make my trip!
The bad news: I locked myself out the other night. Fail.
The good news: Lexie was great and waited with me at the security center, where we got to pet the adorable cat. Also, I got a card from my mother, so I know my address works!
